About Me
Stephany N. Mejia
First-Generation, Bilingual, Bicultural Latinx Licensed Therapist.
Hi, I’m Stephany N. Mejia, MSW, LCSW (she/her/ella) — I am a first-generation Nicaraguan-Dominican bilingual therapist and the founder of Healing Seeds Therapy PLLC. As a therapist I offer holistic, attachment-based, and liberation-focused therapy rooted in anti-oppressive values.
As a holistic, relationally focused therapist, I honor the deep connection between mind, body, and spirit. My work is grounded in the belief that healing happens in relationship—both with ourselves and with others—and I integrate attachment-based support to help clients deepen their sense of safety, connection, and belonging. I bring lived experience and deep commitment to creating spaces where authenticity, identity, and love in all its forms are honored. My practice centers liberation, intersectionality, and care for those navigating the complexities of identity, community, and belonging. My approach is collaborative, attuned, and rooted in the values of justice, compassion, and truth.
I specialize in supporting individuals navigating complex family dynamics, including adult children of emotionally immature or narcissistic parents and eldest daughters who have carried a deep sense of responsibility within their families. I work with pregnant people and parents—whether they are pursuing fertility treatment, embracing child-free living, or adjusting to new roles in parenthood—as well as LGBTQ+ individuals and those facing major life transitions or stressors. Central to my practice are themes of identity exploration, racial and relational trauma, first-generation experiences, and the lifelong process of reconnecting to one’s authentic self.
I have specialized training in maternal mental health through Postpartum Support International, with a focus on the emotional well-being of pregnant and postpartum individuals. My background also includes several years of experience in early childhood mental health, and I am passionate about supporting parents in cultivating strong, nurturing, and developmentally supportive relationships with their young children.
In addition to my clinical work, I am a 200-hour certified yoga teacher, having trained in a social justice-oriented approach to yoga with Michelle Cassandra Johnson through Skill in Action in Winston-Salem, NC. This practice informs my understanding of the mind-body connection and deepens my commitment to healing work that is grounded in equity, embodiment, and collective care.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Nonprofit Studies from North Carolina State University and earned my Master’s in Clinical Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Originally from Washington Heights, New York City, I now reside in North Carolina and am licensed to provide therapy in North Carolina, Virginia, and Florida. My upbringing as a working-class daughter of a single immigrant mother profoundly shapes the values I bring into the therapy space—centering resilience, cultural humility, and a deep commitment to healing within marginalized communities.
In my spare time, I explore ancestral healing practices, tend to my many plants, DJ, and create playlists and booklists designed to support the healing journeys of those I serve.
I am trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) training, EMDR and Brainspotting. In December 2025 I will complete my Sound Healing Practitioner Certificate.

Modalities + Specialties
-
Brainspotting (BSP)
Brainspotting is a relational, brain-body-based therapy that can help integrate unprocessed trauma stuck in the body. If you choose, we can incorporate brainspotting into your therapeutic experience. To learn more about BSP, you can do so here.

Holistic Therapy
This approach is focused on integrating various forms of healing in order to address the WHOLE person. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, this method seeks to uncover and work with underlying emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects that may impact an individual's well-being. In Holistic Therapy, the therapist collaborates with clients to explore a range of factors such as mental patterns, physical health, lifestyle, and personal beliefs, creating a tailored approach to growth and healing.
As a 200-hour trained yoga teacher, I incorporate somatic (body-based) approaches into therapy for clients who want to deepen their connection with their bodies. This might include mindful breathing, grounding, gentle movement, or body awareness exercises to support emotional regulation and healing.
-
EMDR (Eye Movement Reprocessing Therapy)
EMDR involves talking and bilateral stimulation — typically eye movements or tapping. EMDR aims to reduce distress and negative beliefs associated with past overwhelming or traumatic experiences. This short video explains how EMDR can be used to help adults.

Internal Family Systems
In our work together, I use Internal Family Systems (IFS) — a gentle, evidence-based approach that helps you understand the different parts of yourself that carry emotions, thoughts, or behaviors. Rather than seeing these parts as “bad” or “broken,” IFS helps you build compassion and curiosity toward them.
In session, we’ll explore what each part of you needs, where it learned its role, and how it’s been trying to protect you. This process helps you access your core Self — the calm, grounded, and wise part of you — so healing can happen from within.
IFS is especially helpful for those who feel conflicted inside, struggle with self-criticism, or want to understand patterns that keep repeating in relationships. It’s a way to create lasting change through inner connection, not judgment.
